How to Assign a Trade
Assignment means your CSP was exercised and you are now buying shares at the strike price. Use the Assign action to record this so your P&L, share tracking, and wheel chain stay correct.
The trade must be in OPEN status and should be a Cash Secured Put (CSP).
Have the assignment date, assignment price, share quantity, and any fees ready.
If you aren't sure whether you were assigned, check your broker's activity log before updating Premium Tracker.
Open the trade details
Find the CSP that was assigned.
- Go to the Trades page.
- Click the trade that was assigned.
- Verify the ticker, strike, and strategy (should be CSP) in the detail dialog.
Click Assign
Opens the assignment form.
- In the action area, click Assign (for CSP) or Call Away (for CC).
- A form tailored to assignment will appear.
Tip: Assign is for Cash Secured Puts. If you have a Covered Call that was called away, use the Call Away button instead.
Enter the assignment details
Record the specifics of the assignment.
- Assignment date — the date the assignment happened.
- Assignment price — usually the strike price of your contract.
- Shares — the number of shares assigned (typically quantity × 100).
- Fees — any fees or commissions charged.
- Notes — optional context.
Review and confirm
Make sure the numbers match your broker.
- Double-check the share quantity and assignment price.
- Click Confirm Assignment.
- The trade changes to ASSIGNED status.
After assignment, the trade records the acquired shares and remains visible in your wheel chain.
The Wheels page will show the assignment as part of the trade chain automatically.
Check the Wheels page to see your full strategy chain.
