How to Open a Trade
This guide walks you through adding a new trade. Follow the steps in order and your trade will appear in the table as soon as you save.
Know the ticker symbol (e.g. AAPL), strategy (CSP or CC), strike price, premium, open date, and expiration date.
If you use multiple portfolios, switch to the correct one first — look for the portfolio picker near the top of the page.
You can edit supporting details later, but check the core contract fields carefully before saving.
Go to the Trades page
This is where all of your positions live.
- Click Trades in the left sidebar.
- Wait until the table finishes loading.
Tip: If the sidebar is collapsed, hover over it or click the hamburger icon at the top.
Click Add Trade
Opens the form where you enter all the details.
- Look for the Add Trade button near the top-right of the page.
- A form dialog will appear in front of the table.
Fill in the required fields
These are the fields the app needs to track the trade correctly.
- Ticker — type the stock symbol exactly as it appears at your broker (e.g. NVDA).
- Strategy — choose Cash Secured Put (CSP) or Covered Call (CC).
- Strike price — the strike of the option contract.
- Premium received — the premium per share you collected.
- Open date — the day you opened the trade.
- Expiration date — the contract expiration.
- Quantity — how many contracts you sold.
Tip: Premium is entered per share. The app automatically multiplies by quantity × 100 when calculating totals.
Add optional details
Fees, delta, and notes are optional. Covered Calls also require the underlying cost basis.
- Fees — total fees/commissions for the trade.
- Cost basis — your cost basis on the underlying shares (Covered Call only).
- Delta — the option delta at entry, useful for analytics.
- Notes — any context you want to remember later.
Review and save
Double-check everything before it becomes part of your record.
- Read each field one more time — pay attention to dates and dollar amounts.
- Click Create Trade at the bottom of the form.
- The new trade appears in your list once it saves. You will see a confirmation message.
Tip: If anything is wrong after saving, you can click the trade and choose Edit immediately.
Use the Trades page whenever you need to add a manual position.
If you traded multiple contracts at different premiums, enter the average premium per share.
